Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide users with high-quality, minimally biased camping and hiking-related content that fosters a love of nature. We want to cultivate a love of camping and hiking outdoors as essential to a great life. We aim to inspire, entertain, and inform you from our own outdoor experiences.

Core Mission Beliefs

  • We steward and protect nature as a precious gift.
  • Nature outdoors improves our physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being.
  • Outdoor activities bring people together and create community.

Our Story

Outdoor Footprints was born out of the simple desire to help people get outdoors with family and friends. Whether you are looking for the best gear, skills, or experiences, we have you covered with straightforward, concise guides.

Our founder, Daniel Borkert, is an avid outdoor enthusiast who has been camping and hiking since childhood. He knows how hard it can be to find concise, reliable information and unbiased reviews on outdoor products and services. He decided to start Outdoor Footprints in 2023 to share his passion and knowledge of the outdoors with others who want to enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

Our Responsibility

Core Values

We take our responsibility as outdoor writers and advocates seriously. Our interconnected core mission beliefs and core values guide our business. Our core values are fostering community, cultivating curiosity, and pursuing care for others and the outdoors. Here is how we live up to these values in our business:

  • We foster community by creating a space where outdoor enthusiasts can connect, share, and learn from each other. We encourage our readers to follow us on social media, comment on our posts, and email us questions or concerns. We also want to foster care of each other in promoting a community based on the love of the outdoors.
  • We cultivate curiosity by exploring new places, trying new things, and learning new skills. We always look for recent trends, innovations, and opportunities in the outdoor space. We share our discoveries, insights, and tips with our readers through our articles and guides and on social media.
  • We pursue care by being mindful of our impact on the environment and the people we encounter in our outdoor adventures. We follow the principles of Leave No Trace and promote environmental stewardship among our readers. We also support various causes and organizations that align with our core values.

Product Review/Commercial Content Best Practices

As a business, we are also responsible for being transparent and ethical in our practices. We use affiliate marketing and display advertising as revenue sources for Outdoor Footprints, a registered business in the state of Washington. Affiliate marketing means that we may earn a small commission when you buy something through our links at no extra cost to you. This business model ensures we can produce high-quality informational and educational content for you.

With this business model, we want to be transparent about how this works on Outdoor Footprints since there is a risk of potential bias in content and reviews. Here are some of the things we do to ensure that we ethically use affiliate marketing:

  • We only recommend products we have personally used or tested or trust based on extensive research.
  • We pay for the products we obtain at retail price and will note if they are discounted, sponsored, or free.
  • We strive to write honest reviews highlighting and rating each product’s pros and cons.
  • We systematically approach our product reviews with a quantifiable method for reader reliability.
  • We disclose whenever we use affiliate links in an article or review.
